The Madeira Wall Lizard (Lacerta dugesii) is a species of lizard of the Lacertidae family. It is endemic to Madeira Island. In the Azores this lizard has become naturalized after involuntary introduction by ship trade between the two archipelagos. Small populations of these creatures exist in the port area of Lisbon due to the fact that they were accidentally transported in ships which carried bananas to the mainland. The first lizards were detected there in 1992.
Although they are, to a large extent, insectivores, ripe fruit and berries (especially wild blackberries) make up part of their diet. With the discovery and subsequent colonization of the archipelago, these lizards began to include fruit and food scraps in their diet.
