In different regions of Portugal there are different traditions, and Madeira is no exception. The Bailinho dance is more typical to the island. It is accompanied by the brinquinho - the traditional regional instrument, made with castanets and wooden puppets, dressed in regional costume, which, when rattled against the cane that sustains it, sound out. This bailinho appeared about half a century ago. The ‘Bailinho das Camacheiras’, which originated in Camacha, is one the most famous folklore groups of Madeira.
