The most beautiful places to seek out across the Madeira Archipelago - from unforgettable lookouts on beaches and bays to the best spots to catch the sunset—are sure to inspire your next trip. So, venture beyond your hotel and explore these lively hot spots filled with breathtaking panoramic views, great restaurants, live music, art and nightlife.

#1 - Funchal

Do the hop–on, hop–off ‘Sightseeing Bus’ around Funchal with its translated commentary and find all the interesting places to visit. Visit the Old Part of Town (Zona Velha) with its painted doors, cafés and typical restaurants. Visit the Funchal Market which is filled with an abundance of smell and colours and which is divided into three sections: flowers, fruit and vegetables and fish. Then, catch the Cable Car for a 15 minute ride up to the Monte. This is an exciting way to see the fantastic views over Funchal. Once at the Monte, visit the Tropical Palace Gardens, which is situated about 550 meters above Funchal. This will take up 2 to 3 hours of your time, enjoying the great views over Funchal, sculpture and artwork that is found in the museum within the gardens and ofcourse the big variety of tropical plants, from all over the world, that are found here. After your visit at the gardens you may take the famous Toboggan Run down. This form of transport has been around since 1850 and was a fast means of transport down to Funchal for all the wealthy aristrocrats that lived in the Monte. 

#2 – Câmara de Lobos

It was this traditional fishing village, situated five kilometres from Funchal, which inspired the late Sir Winston Churchill to paint its lovely surroundings.

Câmara de Lobos, apart from its wonderful bay, has several belvederes including Cabo Girão, Europe’s second highest sea cliff, which will dazzle you with its breathtaking panoramic views. Câmara de Lobos is also home of the ‘poncha’, a mixture of lemon juice, honey and sugarcane spirit, available at the many local taverns.

On the road you will see banana plantations which give way to vineyards and cherries.

#3 – Porto Moniz

Porto Moniz is a remote coastal village located at the north-westernmost point of Madeira.
Set high on a hill looking over the seafront, the town is well sheltered by a narrow peninsula that points toward a picturesque islet.
The town's most interesting characteristic is its natural swimming pools carved out of volcanic rock. The road dips and rises as it passes through tunnels and overhead waterfalls.

#4 – Santana

Characterised by its small thatched triangular houses, Santana is a beautiful village on the north coast. The main attraction since 2004 has been the Madeira Theme Park where visitors can learn about island history, familiarize themselves with Madeiran traditions and culture, and explore 7-acred park-garden.

#5 –Caldeirão Verde

Madeira is unique for its accessible and extensive watercourses called ‘levadas’.

A truly iconic and enjoyable experience, levada walks are very popular in Madeira.

Caldeirão Verde is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful of the Madeira levada walks. The route winds through lush emerald green Laurissilva forest watered by pretty streams and waterfalls.

#6 – Pico Ruivo

At 1862 metres, Pico Ruivo is the highest peak in Madeira. That said, it offers stunning views and a variety of flora and fauna and well deserves its popularity. The whole route is well waymarked and in good condition and route finding is no problem.

#1 - Funchal

A histórica Zona da Velha do Funchal tem imenso para oferecer, razão pela qual encontra muitos restaurantes tradicionais e as famosas portas pintadas – uma verdadeira obra de arte. O Mercado dos Lavradores tem para oferecer o melhor da Ilha: as mais frescas e exóticas frutas, vegetais e as frondosas flores do “jardim do Atlântico”, e peixe fresco do Atlântico. O Teleférico do Jardim Botânico situa-se no centro do Funchal. A promessa é a de uma viagem de sonho, rasgando a Natureza sobre o vale da Ribeira de João Gomes, local de exótica e rara beleza natural. A vista panorâmica estende-se à lindíssima cidade do Funchal e a uma deslumbrante paisagem, onde o verde se funde com o azul do mar. O Jardim Tropical Monte Palace localiza-se no cimo de uma linda colina com vistas deslumbrantes sobre a baía do Funchal. Uma  das atracoes  mais  conhecidas  Madeira sao os famosos carros do Monte, estes carros de vime e madeira com dois lugares, sao controlados por dois carreiros vestidos com o tipico traje branco e chapeu de palha que usam as proprias botas como travoes, a viagem ate ao Funchal e feita em cerca de 10 minutos num percurso total de 2 km, atingindo velocidades de 48 km/hora.

#2 – Câmara de Lobos

Foi esta tradicional vila piscatória, situada a cinco quilómetros do Funchal, que inspirou Sir Winston Churchill a pintá-la.

A não perder de maneira nenhuma é o Cabo Girão (o segundo cabo mais alto da Europa), capaz de o presentear com vistas espantosas sobre o concelho do Funchal. Câmara de Lobos é a 'casa' da Poncha, uma mistura de sumo de limão, mel e aguardente de cana de açúcar, sempre pronta a servir nas muitas tascas locais.

Partindo em direcção ao Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, aperceber-se-á de que a cultura da banana dá lugar à da vinha e, um pouco mais acima, à da cereja.

#3 – Porto Moniz

A principal atracção desta vila da costa Norte são sem dúvida as piscinas naturais, que se 'deitam' entre bizarras rochas de lava e que são enchidas pela maré com águas cristalinas.
Não só pelas excelentes condições de banho que oferecem, mas também pela sua extrema beleza, estas piscinas são ideais para relaxar, nadar, apanhar sol ou apenas para uma visita.

#4 – Santana

Conhecida pelas suas casas triangulares, Santana é uma bonita vila na costa norte. Estas casas, construídas com pedra natural e colmo, são usadas como estábulos e, algumas vezes, até como habitação já há muitos séculos. O Parque Temático da Madeira é outra atr ação que vale a pena visitar. Pode ser visitado durante todo o ano e encontra-se dividido em vários núcleos e inclui variadíssimas atracções para novos e velhos ligadas à história, tradições e cultura do povo da Madeira.

#5 – Caldeirão Verde

Não há melhor forma de ver a Madeira e sentir a natureza do que percorrê-la a pé. Com trilhos desafiantes e espectaculares por serras selvagens, atravessando túneis e sob quedas de água, rodeados de natureza de uma beleza deslumbrante, passear a pé nas levadas da Madeira é um prazer infindável. A Levada do Caldeirão Verde oferece ao caminhante uma vertiginosa e espectacular visão da orografia do interior da ilha e a possibilidade de passar por túneis escavados na rocha à força de braços.

A 1862 metros, Pico Ruivo é o pico mais alto da Ilha da Madeira e o terceiro mais alto de Portugal. Situa-se no centro da Ilha com maravilhosas vistas e passagens.
